PROGRAM ORIENTATION

9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Students will be introduced to the various trips offered during the fall semester. Participants will have the opportunity to register for the trips they desire. Physical Education students are required to pay the course fee at this time and choose at least three trips to attend to receive credit.
Information will be provided about each trip which will include time, date and meeting location as well as equipment and clothing requirements.
Students will also complete all trip-related forms and the rules of the program will be covered. Please bring a pad and pen to the meeting.
ICE CLIMBING

Experience one of the most exciting new extreme sports! Students will experience ice climbing on 60-70 foot slabs of ice while under the safety of a top-rope anchor system. Students will learn proper technique in ice-axe placement and climbing with crampons.
No experience is required. Students will be required to have appropriate clothing, such as a ski jacket, pants and wool socks. Ice axes, ice climbing boots, harness and crampons will be provided. Students should also be prepared for cold weather with prolonged waiting to climb. Ice conditions dictate the location of climbing.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Learn all the basics of cross - country skiing. Cross - country skiing provides a great aerobic workout and can be enjoyed by beginners as well as advanced skiers.
No experience is required. Students will be issued skis, poles and shoes. Students must be prepared with appropriate ski clothing. Instruction will be provided.
SNOWBOARDING/SKIING

Students can choose between snowboarding and skiing. We will be going to the beautiful Poconos and Shawnee Ski Resort.
No experience is required. Students will be provided with skis or snowboard, poles (if necessary), boots and lift tickets. Lessons for either skiing or snowboarding will be available. You are also welcome to bring your own equipment. Students must be prepared with appropriate ski clothing.
MOUNTAIN BIKING

Experience the extreme sport of mountain biking. Each trip is limited to 10 people. All participants must be comfortable and have recent experience riding a bicycle. If you have not been on a bicycle in over three years and wish to go on the mountain bike trip, you may sign out one of the mountain bikes some time before the trip to reacquaint yourself with riding. The trails circle Lake Minnewaska and Lake Awosting as well as cliff tops with extraordinary views of the Catskill Mountains.
ROCK CLIMBING

The rock climbing trip takes place at the world famous Shawangunks in New York. Learn proper climbing techniques which will enable you to ascent the 60-80 foot cliff that we will be climbing. The basic use of belay equipment will be covered as well as proper belay commands. No experience is required. Students will be issued climbing shoes, harness and helmet.
White Water Rafting

Spend the day rafting down the Delaware River. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as a few adrenaline rushes! Depending on the water level, class II and III rapids may be encountered.
No experience is required. Students will be issued paddles, life vest and assigned to a raft.
