Beyond the Pond: The Journey Continues
HOBOKEN, N.J. – During his career with the Ducks from 2003-06, Nick Gkionis developed into one of the top players in the history of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer program. In fact, as a senior, he was named a first-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Gkionis was just the second player in program history to earn the award.
Helak Named Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach and Athletics Administration Assistant at Stevens
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Former State University of New York at Canton Head Women’s Volleyball and Softball Coach Mary Helak recently joined the Department of Athletics staff at Stevens Institute of Technology. Helak will serve as the Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach under Head Coach J.J. O’Connell. She will also carry the title of Athletics Administration Assistant where she will report to Assistant Director of Athletics for Administration Brian Granata. In this role, Helak will assist with overseeing event management, the Duckling Program, CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and other administrative duties.
Women's Basketball Releases 2008-09 Schedule
HOBOKEN, N.J. – On Friday, Stevens Institute of Technology Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jon Hochberg released the Ducks’ schedule for the 2008-09 season. Stevens will play 25 regular-season games, which includes 16 contests against Empire 8 schools. Overall, the Ducks are slated to play 11 of their 25 games against teams that made either the NCAA or ECAC Tournament last year. In 2007-08, Stevens went 24-6 overall and 15-1 in its first season in the Empire 8.
Former Pro Player Stephanie Del Preore Named Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Stevens
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Recently, Stevens Institute of Technology Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jon Hochberg announced the hiring of Stephanie Del Preore as the new assistant coach for the Ducks. Del Preore, who played professionally in Spain for one season a few years ago, was a standout player at Division I Marist College and graduated as the Red Foxes’ sixth all-time leading scorer. She was also fifth in career rebounds.
2009 Men's Lacrosse Schedule Features Several of the Top Teams in the Nation Once Again
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Byron Collins has announced a very challenging schedule for 2009 that features eight teams that appeared in the top-30 in the nation in the final United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll for 2008. This coming year’s slate also boasts 10 teams that won 10 or more games last season and eight that appeared in either the NCAA or ECAC tournaments. Overall, the Ducks are scheduled to play 14 regular-season contests.
