October 3, 2011 - NECTC Championship
The NECTC gathered to announce the results of the season. It was announced that Stevens had placed 2nd as a team, right after Army. The women, once again, barely lost to Army by 20 points. The Stevens women had top finishers in the NECTC, including Amanda Nauman who won the entire series, and Jamie Brabston who placed 3rd. This was out of 193 female athletes that competed this season, and all the Stevens women finished in the top half of the competition. The men also had top finishers, including Joe Huyett in 8th place, Nick Walulik in 11th, and Luke Niezelski in 12th. All the men finished in the top half of the 250 competitors.
This amazing finish of the season should guarantee spots for a full team from Stevens at Nationals, the Stevens Tri Team’s next competition in the spring. The Ducks will be ready to dominate with this excellent team they have built throughout this season, and this success will only fuel the fire to train even harder in the coming months.
October 1-2, 2011 - NECTC Championship
The third and final triathlon of the NECTC season was held in Montauk, NY. Stevens was prepared to rock the competition after an exceptional season of training, despite the slightly stormy weather. Stevens brought their biggest number yet of 14 solid athletes to compete for the gold. And with points counting double at this championship race, every athlete counts!
Unfortunately, luck was not on the men’s side this weekend. Three of the men’s top performers, Joe Huyett, Matt Smith, and Evan Wilson, were taken out of the competition early with flat tires right at the beginning of the bike course. Despite these setbacks, the Stevens’ men still had great performances lead by Nick Walulik, Luke Niezelski, and Aaron Perelman, who racked up valuable points for the team.
The women didn’t need luck at this year’s competition. Amanda Nauman took revenge from her 3rd place finish the week before to win the entire race and beat out her rivals by almost two minutes. It certainly helped that she had the fastest swim and bike out of all the women in the competition, and her run was a personal best. Jamie Brabston came in 4th again this week to once again prove her consistent strength. Nicole Ogrosso, who has been coming back from injury, pulled off an amazing 12th place finish. Kim McCaffrey and Natalie Fitz, a newcomer, finished off for the girls and received more valuable points. The women finished second overall behind Army, just missing it by 20 points.

September 24-25, 2011 - Westchester Triahtlon
The second Triathlon of the NECTC season kicked off in Rye, New York. Stevens came into the triathlon with the number one ranked team in the overall men and women categories. The dominant placement is thanks to the ducks owning three of the top four individual places for men and the number one spot for individual women. Eleven athletes competed for Stevens, determined to tighten the strangle hold on the rest of the conference.
The men competed with nine athletes, led by Joe Huyett. Joe finished 2nd of NECTC competitors. His time of 2:04:26 blew away his previous time by over six minutes. The dominant showing was aided by his number one swim and number seven run out of all 1011 competitors. The other Stevens men, Mathew Smith, Nick Walulik, and Evan Wilson, followed with top 20 finishes. The day’s excellent performances rewarded the men with a second place team finish behind Army. The Second place finish strengthens Stevens position at the top of the leader board.
Two women competed in the Westchester Triathlon for Stevens and carved out two of the top four places for NECTC women. Amanda Nauman assumed her usual position on the podium with a 3rd place finish and a time of 2:19:53. Upon last report, Amanda has had to rent separate storage space to stockpile all of her trophies. Jamie Brabston finished 4th out of all the NECTC Women. Jamie and Amanda are making a strong push for best female team in the conference.
The Stevens Triathlon Team came away from the Westchester Triathlon with hardened hopes for finishing top in the conference by season’s end. Next week’s triathlon, MightyMan, is the conference championships, which brings double points. Stevens trains for competition and prepares for glory. GO DUCKS

September 3, 2011 - Lake George Triathlon 2011
On September 3rd, Lake George, New York hosted the 2011 Lake George Festival, a range of triathlon events including a kids event, an Olympic distance triathlon, and half Ironman triathlon. The North East Collegiate Triathlon Conference (NECTC) participated in the Olympic distance triathlon as the first event in the 2011 NECTC schedule, after the unfortunate cancellation of the Cranberry Triathlon in Massachusetts because of hurricane Irene. The early Saturday morning opened with a 0.9 mile swim in Lake George, followed by a tough rolling 40 kilometer bike course, and finished with a difficult 10 kilometers of pounding road running.
As the inaugural event for the 2011 schedule, it was very important for the Stevens Triathlon Team to jump out early and show the rest of the conference who is the top dog in the points series to determine this year’s champion. The Stevens Ducks not only met and overcame the high task, but left the rest of the conference in awe of the overwhelming improvement Stevens has made from their 2010 2nd place squad. The seven Stevens men took away four of the top ten spots, including three of the top five podium placements. Joe Huyett, a newcomer to the triathlon team led the men with a 2nd place finish, followed by the veterans Nick Walulik and Luke Niezelski in 3rd and 4th place, respectively.
Due to injuries only two women came to represent the Ducks at Lake George, but their diminutive number didn’t smother their roar. Amanda Nauman crushed the competition, won the female competition, and came in 10th overall, including men and women. The closest female finisher crossed the line over thirteen minutes after Amanda. We are all excited to see Amanda continue her supremacy. Carolyn Brady was the other female competitor, but due to a mid-race accident, could not post her best time. The next triathlon should bring all of the Ducks women out to display the meaning of dominance.
By winning the Lake George Triathlon, Stevens has already posted maximum points for a NECTC Points Series. The win has set the Ducks on the best possible path to take first place in the conference this year. Stay posted for more great news about the Stevens Triathlon Club.
