Steve Gachko is in his 21st season as the head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team in 2025-26.

Gachko served as the head coach of both the men's and women's programs prior to 2020 and compiled a 370-203 record combined between the two teams. Since 2020, he has amassed a 68-28 mark as the men's head coach.

He was the ITA National Men’s Coach of the Year award in 2015. He is the winningest women’s and men’s tennis coach in program history.
 
Gachko has won 13 conference Coach of the Year awards, and his teams have finished over .500 in all but three of his 20 total seasons. Additionally, Gachko was awarded the USTA/ITA Campus & Community Outreach Award in recognitions for service to the community and leading community-based tennis programs.

Men's Tennis HC

  • Led Stevens to the MAC Freedom Regular Season and Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each year as a member of the MAC Freedom
  • Coached the Ducks to a sweep at the 2019 MAC Individual Championships in their first year in the conference
  • Led the Ducks to 10 consecutive Empire 8 Championships and 13 overall conference titles 
  • Helped Matthew Heinrich win the ITA Northeast Singles Regional Title in 2015 as well as Heinrich and Ben Foran win the Doubles Championship 
  • Won a program-record 19 matches in the 2014-15 season  
  • Took the Ducks to their first-ever Round of 16 appearance in 2013 
  • Named ITA National and Northeast Coach of the Year in 2015 
  • Won 12 straight matches in his first season as a head coach 
  • Won their first NCAA Tournament match in 2008, setting off a run of 11 second round appearances in 13 seasons 

Stevens Women's HC

  • Coached Stevens to four MAC Individual Titles at the 2019 MAC Individual Championships in 2019
  • Led the Ducks to 13 consecutive Empire 8 Conference Tournaments, including five straight appearances in the championship match 
  • Helped Stevens win their first Empire 8 Tournament Championship in 2019 
  • Took the Ducks to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in 2019 
  • Coached Jessica Bourque and Lisa Tessitore to the 2015 ITA Doubles Northeast Regional Title 
  • Went a perfect 10-0 in the 2014 regular season, including handing Ithaca College its first Empire 8 loss since 2011 
  • Led Dana Bacalla to the finals of the ITA Singles Northeast Regional in 2006 

TCNJ Assistant

  • Helped coach several All-Americas en route to both teams finishing in the top-25 
  • During his second year with both programs, the men compiled a 12-3 record while the women recorded an impressive 14-3 mark 
  • Started a co-ed club tennis team from scratch 
  • Earned his bachelor’s degree after a four-year playing career with the Lions tennis program 
  • Guided his players to the 2004 National Campus Championships in Daytona, Fla. before steering his club team to a berth in the national event in San Diego in 2005
