Erica Mehalick

The 2017 season will be Erica Mehalick’s eighth as the head coach of the Stevens Institute of Technology softball team, having served in the position since the program’s inception as a club team in 2005.

After building the program from scratch, Mehalick reached the 100-win plateau during the 2015 season en route to her second consecutive 27+ win season. Mehalick has reached the double-digit win mark five times during her career, and has four winning seasons under her belt.

Under Mehalick's watch, a total of 25 student-athletes have received Empire 8 All-Conference honors, including the conference rookie (Jessica Rees) and pitcher (Kayla Berardi) of the year in 2014. Mehalick has also coached five ECAC All-Stars, eight NFCA All-Region performers, and one CoSIDA Academic All-District. Mehalick was also tabbed Empire 8 Coach of the Year during the 2014 campaign.

Since injuries hampered the 2013 team, Mehalick’s squads have won 80 games over the last three seasons combined, making a pair of appearances in the E8 Championship. Recently, Mehalick’s teams have reached the conference championship in four of the last six years.

Mehalick was a four-year starting pitcher and two-year captain as a player at Drew University, where she was named All-Middle Atlantic Conference and All-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2001 and 2003. A Nutley, N.J. native, Mehalick was a two-time Academic All-American and participated in the 2004 United States Softball open tryout.

Mehalick’s career highlight came in 2001 when she tossed the only perfect game in Drew history, which she followed up with a no-hitter in 2002 before graduating from Drew as the career record holder for career wins, strikeouts and appearances. The perfect game was named Drew University’s second-greatest individual performance in school history in 2011.

In addition to her work as the head coach of the Stevens club team, Mehalick led the North Jersey Rocks from 2004-2007. Mehalick’s worked with the 10U and 12U teams during that time and was in charge of everything from tryouts and the running of tournaments to planning and implementing practices and managing.

Mehalick has worked privately with a multitude of softball players from Weehawken and Hoboken and has run a variety of camps and clinics including the Chatham Recreation Clinic and Strike 3 Pitching and Catching Clinic. She’s also coached at the Nike Softball Camp, David Brearly High School Softball Camp, Tammy Evan Softball Academy, Mustang Softball Camp, and Morris County Boys and Girls Club Pitching Clinics.

A 2003 graduate of Drew with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and a 2014 graduate of Farleigh Dickinson with a masters degree in sports administration, Mehalick currently resides in Nutley, N.J.
