CHICAGO, Ill.  (December 1, 2012) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team traveled to the Midwest to compete against NCAA Division I institutions Northwestern University and Duke University on Saturday in Chicago. Stevens dropped both duals to the DI schools but pushed Duke through half of that showdown.

Against the nationally ranked Wildcats, Stevens was shutout through the 10 bouts but sophomore Mike Polizzi (Montville, N.J.) and freshman Douglas Medrano (San Jose, Calif.) challenged their opponents in the 149-lb. and 184 classes, respectively. Polizzi lost in a 7-6 decision, while Medrano fell, 4-3, in his bout.

Through the first six bouts against Duke, the Ducks led, 15-13, but were swept in the remaining bouts to drop the bout.

Polizzi won his 149 tangle against Marcus Cain by way of fall in 3:19. Sophomore Zach Bass (Westhampton, N.Y.) recorded points for the Ducks by way of forfeit to close the gap to within one at 13-12, at 157.

Senior Joey Favia (Brick, N.J.) put the Ducks ahead, 15-13, in the 165 grapple with a 7-3 decision win over Randy Rohen.

Stevens returns to the mat for a Centennial Conference match against NYU on December 7 at 7 p.m.
