USTFCCCA Women's Individual All-Academic Release

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 7, 2013)
– The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual All-Academic teams in late February and both Stevens Institute of Technology cross country teams received recognition for excellence in the classroom. The men's team posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.467, while the women were at 3.417. Since 2007, both teams have been honored four times and boasted two of the top three GPA's on Stevens' campus this fall.

Only 141 men's teams in all of Division III landed on the list, while 197 squads on the women's side were recognized for having a team GPA 3.10 or better. Johns Hopkins University was named the Women's Scholar Team of the Year, while Calvin College earned the same distinction for the men.

Twelve members of the Stevens cross country teams were named to the Empire 8 Conference President's List in the fall semester for maintaining a 3.75 or higher GPA during the semester, or cumulative within the classroom.

Individually, freshman national qualifier Amy Regan (Green Brook, N.J.) was one of 201 women's runners to garner All-Academic status. Regan, an Engineering Management major with a GPA of 3.771, became the first-ever Stevens cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships in mid November.

At the championship, Regan posted a personal-best time of 22:07.7 on the 6K course. She finished 40th overall out of 277 runners at the meet in Terre Haute, Ind. She also placed ninth at the Atlantic Regionals just one week prior to NCAA's.

In a year of firsts for Stevens cross country, Regan was the first runner to receive all-region recognition, be named Empire 8 Conference Runner and Rookie of the Year and win the individual title at the Empire 8 Championships.

Along with the academic honors released by the USTFCCCA, the organization also sent out its weekly regional rankings for track & field earlier this week. The women were ranked 10th, while the men landed in the 15th spot. Only individual marks within the top eight are calculated into the rankings and the women garnered four marks, while the men owned two. Senior Alina Duran (West New York, N.J) was first and fifth, respectively in the weight throw and shot put, Regan was fourth in the 5K and senior Rebecca Tylock (Shrewsbury, Mass.) ranked sixth in the pole vault. For the men, senior Victor Servito (Teaneck, N.J.) holds the second best mark in the heptathlon, while sophomore Robert Pinto (Staten Island, N.Y.) sits fifth in the high jump.
