MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (January 18, 2014) – A banged up Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team fell in a pair of matches at the Mid-Penn Duals in Millersville, Pa. Saturday.
 
Stevens was defeated by Division II foe Shippensburg University by a 37-10 final, and then fell to York College (Pa.), 35-8. The Ducks were led by junior heavyweight Chris Florek who went 2-0 on the day.
 
Shippensburg 37, Stevens 10
Shippensburg was able to earn a wins by fall at 125 and 133 to start the dual, and then took a major decision at 141, before opening a 22-0 lead with another victory by fall at 149. The lead moved to 28-0 before junior Conner Bass continued his excellent 2013-14 season with a 4-2 decision at 165 over Luke Etter to make it 28-3. The victory was the seventh-straight for Bass.
 
Junior Zach Bass made it two-straight Stevens wins with a major over Brett Pastore in the 174-lb. weight class, and after Shippensburg victories at 184 and 197, Florek tallied a decision to close out the dual.
 
York (Pa.) 35, Stevens 8
Freshman Rob Murray earned a win to open the match at 125, taking a technical fall and five points for the Ducks with a 19-1 margin over Ronal Hindman. The Spartans were able to win the next eight bouts, but Florek earned his second win of the day with a 7-3 decision over Mike Spencer to improve to 15-7 on the year.
 
Stevens is now 6-5 overall this season.
 
The Ducks will return to action at the Short Hitchcock Tournament Sunday in Millersville, Pa.
