HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 14, 2014) – Freshman
Lindsey Mahnken (Bayville, N.J.) of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team picked up her second Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor this season on Monday afternoon.
Mahnken earned a pair of Empire 8 wins this weekend for Stevens in 135 minutes played. In a 3-1 triumph over Houghton College, Mahnken made nine saves and then recorded one in a 5-0 shutout of Alfred University the following day.
She is 9-2 on the season with four shutouts and was a part of two other clean sheets in 11 matches. Mahnken bolsters a .867 save percentage and a 0.67 goals-against average in 810 minutes of action. Her GAA ranks second in the conference, while her save percentage is third.
On Tuesday evening, the Eastern College Athletic Conference named Mahnken its
Division III Upstate Rookie of the Week.
Stevens hosts Nazareth College in a crucial conference tilt on Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend. Both institutions will enter Saturday's contest with identical 4-1 Empire 8 records which is tied for second in the league.
