HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 20, 2017)  – Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball graduate student
Kaitlyn Astel and junior
Megan Brown were recognized by D3Hoops.com. Astel was named an Honorable Mention All-American and was named to the publication's All-East Region First Team for the third straight year, while Brown was named to the All-East Region Second Team for the first time.
Astel closed her career on Castle Point as one of the top players in program history. She was recently named Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the third year in a row to become the first three-time honoree in conference history. The Staten Island native averaged 16.8 points per game, which ranked third in the conference and led the E8 in field goal percentage (.458). She reached double figures in 20 games this season, including nine with 20 or more points.
The high-scoring guard finishes her career ranked third on the school's all-time scoring list and is ranked in the top five in both field goals and free throws made. Astel set a new school record with her 36-point performance against St. John Fisher earlier this season and her career 15.1 points per game scoring average placed second on the Stevens career list.Â
Brown averaged 11.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, while starting all 26 games for the Ducks. The Laurel, Maryland native ranked second in the Empire 8 in rebounding and blocks and 13th in steals. She was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a defensive unit that allowed the fewest points per game in the conference and forced opponents into a conference-low 33% field-goal percentage. The junior forward had 13 games with double-digit rebounding, 11 double-doubles, and pulled down a career-high 18 boards against Nazareth on Feb. 18, helping the Ducks clinch the conference's regular-season title. Brown's 254 rebounds ranked sixth on the all-time single-season list.Â
