Girnys Named 2008 Sportsman of the Year from the Empire 8
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Junior second baseman Matt Girnys from Stevens Institute of Technology was named the 2008 Sportsman of the Year by the Empire 8 on Monday for his performance this past year. The accolade emphasizes that “Competing With Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission.
Anunziatta and Meerendonk Earn NJCBA Rookie of the Week Honors
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Freshman pitcher Dan Anunziatta and freshman third baseman Ken Meerendonk both earned New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Rookie Pitcher of the Week and Rookie Player of the Week honors, respectively, for their performances in the wins over Utica College last weekend. The NJCBA encompasses both Division II and III award winners as this marks the first time that members from the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team have been recognized during the 2008 season.
Anunziatta Receives Pitcher of the Week Honors from Empire 8
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman pitcher Dan Anunziatta from the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team was awarded Pitcher of the Week honors by the Empire 8 for his performance in the 4-1 win over Utica College Saturday afternoon in Utica, N.Y. This marks the third time this season that a member of the team has received weekly recognition; all of which were pitchers.
Baseball Doubleheader at Utica Postponed
UTICA, N.Y. – Sunday’s baseball doubleheader between Stevens Institute of Technology and Utica College has been postponed due to rain. There is no word at this time whether the game will be made up. That information will be released as soon as it becomes available. The Ducks won the first two games of the four-game set on Saturday.
Baseball Posts Come-From-Behind Win as Meerendonk Totals Five RBI to Propel Stevens to a Pair of Wins over Utica
UTICA, N.Y. – Freshman third baseman Ken Meerendonk finished the day 4-for-7 with a pair of runs scored and five RBI as the Stevens Institute of Technology baseball team earned two conference wins over Utica College on Saturday in Utica, N.Y. Stevens totaled 19 hits on the day as they took down the Pioneers by the scores of 8-4 and 4-1. The Ducks posted five runs in their last at-bats of Game One as they improve to 10-26 overall on the year and 3-11 in Empire 8 play.
