Bertucci, Grobeis, Barito, and Paul Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Teams
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Four different Stevens Institute of Technology student-athletes were named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large. Senior Michael Bertucci and sophomore Brandt Grobeis of the men’s volleyball team were named first– and second-team, respectively. Sophomore Laura Barito of the women’s swimming team was a second-team choice, and senior Hillary Paul of the field hockey team was named to the third-team.
Field Hockey Nabs NFHCA All-Academic Team Award; Eight Players Selected to All-Academic Team
CHANDLER, Ariz. – For the fifth time in as many years, the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team was a recipient of the Academic Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Stevens welcomed field hockey as a varsity sport in 2004, and the team has received the award each year in the program’s existence. Eight members of the team were also named to the National Academic Squad by the NFHCA for completing the first semester of the 2008-09 school year with a grade-point average above a 3.30. Three of the eight honored earned the distinction in each of their four years playing field hockey.
NFHCA Honors Reed, Shields, and Paul to Cap Fantastic '08 Field Hockey Season
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Head Field Hockey Coach Jessica Reed and senior captains Hillary Paul and Allison Shields were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association after their fantastic 2008 season. Reed was named the Dita/NFHCA North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year as Paul and Shields were second- and third-team All-Americans, respectively. These individual honors cap an incredible season that saw the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team win a program-best 19 games, take an Empire 8 conference title for the first time, and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in its first tournament appearance.
Three Stevens Field Hockey Players Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Early this week, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its 2008 Longstretch/NFHCA All-Region teams, and three members of the Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey squad were named All-North Atlantic Region. Senior captains Hillary Paul and Allison Shields, and junior Kara Borzillo were all named to the first-team. Stevens recently ended the best season in the program’s five-year history as the Ducks won the Empire 8, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship, and finished with an overall record of 19-4.
Field Hockey Closes out Season with 3-0 Loss at Bowdoin in Second Round of NCAA Tournament
BRUNSWICK, Maine – Defending national champion Bowdoin College used an early goal from sophomore midfielder/forward Ingrid Oelschlager and added two more second-half goals en route to posting a 3-0 win over 16th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology during an NCAA Division III Championship second-round game on Saturday morning in Brunswick, Maine. With the loss, the Ducks closed out the year with an overall record of 19-4. The 19 victories are a new school record for the field hockey program, which is in just its fifth year of existence.
