Men's Basketball Presented Prestigious Schoenfeld Award by the CBOA
CLARK, N.J. – On Tuesday night at the annual Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA) awards dinner, Stevens Institute of Technology Head Men's Basketball Coach Bobby Hurley was presented the 2008-09 Schoenfeld Award for the Metro/New Jersey Region. The award is presented to the college or university, which in the judgment of the CBOA membership, best exemplifies "the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics among their players, coaches and spectators."
Gray Named First-Team All-Met Division III All-Star; Passalacqua Finishes Season Among Top Three-Point Shooters in Country
HOBOKEN, N.J. – On Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that senior guard Virgil Gray was named a first-team All-Met Division III all-star by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA). Gray, a second-team all-conference pick this season, led Stevens in scoring and will graduate as the institution's leading scorer. In addition, senior guard Anthony Passalacqua finished 2008-09 ranked among the nation’s best three-point shooters, as he was in the top-20 in both three-point field-goals made and three-point field-goal percentage.
Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime of ECAC Metro Quarterfinal to Rutgers-Newark; Ducks End Season at 13-13
NEWARK, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Metro Tournament quarterfinals to Rutgers University-Newark on Wednesday night in Newark, N.J. The Ducks held a 10-point lead with under four minutes to go in regulation but the Scarlet Raiders battled back to tie the score at 80 in the final seconds and went on to win it 91-89 with a put-back by junior forward Phil Barnes with two seconds to go overtime.
Men's Basketball Gets Sixth Seed in ECAC Metro Tournament; Ducks Will Take on Third-Seeded Rutgers-Newark Wednesday
BOSTON, Mass. – On Monday afternoon, it was announced that the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team will be the sixth seed in the upcoming 2009 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Tournament. The Ducks will take on third-seeded Rutgers University-Newark on Wednesday night in Newark, N.J. at 7 p.m. Stevens won last year’s ECAC Metro title by defeating York College in the championship game. Stevens was the No. 1 seed in the tournament and beat the College of Staten Island and Brooklyn College prior to defeating York.
Captains Gray and Passalacqua Garner Second-Team All-Empire 8 Honors
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – On Thursday morning, it was announced that senior captains Virgil Gray and Anthony Passalacqua were named second-team All-Empire 8. Gray and Passalacqua led the Ducks in scoring all season and both will end their respective careers as leaders in several different categories in the Stevens record book. The all-conference selection was the third for Gray, who earned a second-team nod from the Empire 8 after the 2007-08 season and a first team nod from the Skyline Conference in 2006-07.
