Lamianski Records 12th-place Showing in Sabre as Men's Fencing Concludes Season at NCAA Regionals
MADISON, N.J. – Freshman sabriest Dzimitry Lamianski took 12th out of 25 fencers that competed at the 2009 NCAA Men’s Fencing Regional event on Saturday, hosted by Drew University in Madison, N.J. The Ducks sent a total of six fencers to compete at the regional meet and although no one advanced to the final round, Stevens performed well within a very challenging field.
Men's and Women's Fencing NCAA Bound
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s fencing team will once again head to the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Drew University in Madison, N.J. this weekend. Last season the women sent five of its fencers that qualified as they increased their number to seven for this year’s competition. The men had four NCAA qualifiers a season ago and will send seven as well, to this Friday’s event that will last all day. Senior epeeist Rachel Cannell will look to improve on her 11th-place showing from last year’s performance after she made history as the second women in the programs 35-year existence to have reached the final round of the NCAA Regional. On the men side, senior Lowden Charles became the first foilist in Stevens’ history to have reached the NCAA Finals during last season, as he is eager to advance further into final round.
Men's Fencing Team Thrusts Its Way To Three MACFA Championships; UNC's Act of Sportsmanship Yields Stevens Sabre Team Gold
EASTON, PA. – Freshmen Dzimitry Lamianski and Charles Steiner of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s fencing team struck gold as both fencers earned championships in their respected weapons at the Middle Atlantic Conference Fencing Association (MACFA) championships Sunday afternoon in Easton, Pa. Lamianski, a sabriest, went undefeated in the preliminary rounds to post a perfect 16-0 mark. Going into the final ranked No. 1, he proceeded to plow through to the field and in the championship bout defeated UNC’s Kevin Zeichman (Charlotte, NC) 15-12 for the gold.
Steiner Posts Strong Performances at Junior Olympic Trial in New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Freshman epeeist Charles Steiner finished 42nd at the 2009 Junior Olympic Trial in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday. Steiner posted a 5-1 showing during the preliminary round and earned a ranking of 34 out of 208 fencers in the epee division. He entered the direct elimination round having won the first, but falling in the second to a top-ranked fencer.
Men's Fencing Records Solid Outing at NJIT Invitational en route to a 6-1 Day
NEWARK, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s fencing team competed at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Invitational on Sunday in Newark, N.J. and the Ducks posted an impressive 6-1 showing to improve to 14-10 on the year. Stevens defeated Yeshiva University 25-2, Lafayette College 22-5, Rutgers University 19-8, Maryland University 22-5, Saint John’s College 20-2 and Hunter College 25-2. The only loss came against Drew University in a tight 12-15 decision.
