Men’s Golf Looks Forward to Successful Year in 2007-08
HOBOKEN, N.J. (September 6, 2007) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s golf team enters its second varsity season after competing for two years as a club sport. In 2006-07, Head Coach Joe Stahley (Hoboken, N.J.) led the Ducks to a fourth-place finish at the Empire 8 Championships, while earning their first-ever first-place showing at the Centenary College Match. He also helped produce a first-team All-Skyline Conference selection and second-team All-Empire 8 honoree in Tom Merriam (Moorestown, N.J.).
This season, the squad is led by Merriam and junior Ryan Cohen (South Brunswick, N.J.), who holds the team records for best individual round (75) and two-day match total (156). Senior Chris Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn.) also returns after posting several solid scores last year, while junior Scott Mozeleski (Manalapan, N.J.), who garnered second-team All-Empire 8 accolades last year, has shown that he is ready to contribute with a team-best score in the preseason.
Juniors Jordan Chacon (Hackensack, N.J.), Ryan Savage (Stewartsville, N.Y.) and Patrick Cavanaugh (Laurel, Md.) return in 2007-08 to add depth and experience to the roster, while freshmen Aaron Dennis (Bangor, Maine), John Kutcher (Wayne, N.J.) and Abhishek Saksena (Princeton Junction, N.J.) are expected to contribute in their first season.
“The team had a solid first year with improving results in the Spring 2007 portion of the season.” Stahley stated. “The combination of returning players, last season’s tournament experience as well as new talent bodes well for a successful second year.”
In the fall season, the Ducks will compete in six matches. The Empire 8 Championships and the ECAC Upstate/Metro tournaments are the key events. In addition, Stevens will be tested by strong regional teams at the Lebanon Valley, Franklin and Marshall, and the Centenary College invitationals.
Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Valley, N.J. will serve as the home site for Stevens. The team also practices at the LaTourette Golf Course in Staten Island, N.Y. as well as the Edgewater Driving Range in Edgewater, N.J.
