Men's Lacrosse Assistant Coach Matt Madalon Wrapped Up Third MLL Season With Trip To Championship Weekend
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse assistant coach Matt Madalon recently wrapped up his third Major League Lacrosse season as a member of the Long Island Lizards with a 13-9 loss to the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the league’s championship game. The Lizards, winners of six-straight heading into the nationally televised final, were hoping to avenge an earlier season loss in what was a rematch of the 2005 MLL championship, but the Bayhawks broke an 8-8 fourth quarter tie – outscoring the Lizards 5-1 down the stretch – to capture the 10th Steinfield Cup, denying Long Island its third MLL championship.
Decker, McHugh Named USILA Honorable Mention All-Americans
PERRY, N.Y. – Captains Dave Decker and Zach McHugh of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team were both named honorable mention All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. It is the third time Decker has been honored as an All-American by the USILA, twice being an honorable mention selection and once being named the second-team. McHugh, a preseason honorable mention All-American in Lacrosse Magazine’s Yearbook ’10, receives the distinction from the USILA for the first time.
Decker to Play in USILA/LaxWorld Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game
TOWSON, Md. – Dave Decker of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team was selected to play in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association(USILA)/LaxWorld Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game on Friday, May 28, at Goucher College in Towson, Md., the USILA announced on Monday afternoon. Decker, who was a member of Stevens for the past three seasons, is a two-time All-American, and three-time All-Empire 8 selection. He was also the conference’s Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
Empire 8 Announces Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Awards; Five Ducks Earn Honors
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – On Monday night, the Empire 8 announced its men’s lacrosse all-conference team and five players from Stevens Institute of Technology were honored. Junior attackman Chris Laurita and junior defenseman Zach McHugh were both named second-team All-Empire 8, while junior attackman Brandon Faubert and junior goalkeeper Dave Decker both were honorable mention all-conference. Senior captain James Napolitano was the Stevens recipient of the Sportsman of the Year award.
Men's Lacrosse Falls to Ithaca in Season Finale
ITHACA, N.Y. – Despite overcoming a 7-1 deficit to take an 8-7 lead with 12:41 to play in the fourth quarter, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team fell to Ithaca College, 11-8, at Upper Terrace Field in Ithaca, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. Junior Brandon Faubert led the Ducks with four goals as Stevens ends its season with an overall record of 9-6 and an Empire 8 mark of 5-3.
