Cross Country and Track and Field Programs Honored as National All-Academic Teams by USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, La. – All six Stevens Institute of Technology track and field and cross country programs were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Academic teams for the 2009-10 school year. The USTFCCCA announced both its team and individual awards this week, with Stevens fifth-year graduate student Salme Cook and freshman Maggie Kowalska named 2010 Division III Track & Field All-Academic Honorees. In addition to their success in the classroom, Cook and Kowalska were also the first two Stevens student-athletes in history to compete at the NCAA Championships this past season.
Abuouf Named Arthur Ashe Sports-Scholar
FAIRFAX, Va. – Rising senior Mohamed Abuouf of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s track and field program was named to the prestigious 2010 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports-Scholar Awards Third-Team. The award honors undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination. To be eligible, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2; and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
Men's Outdoor Track and Field Wraps Up Regular Season at TCNJ
EWING, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology outdoor track and field team closed out its regular season on Thursday at The College of New Jersey Last Chance Invitational. Senior Mohamed Abouf and sophomore Victor Servito had quality showings at the event as the Ducks will now wait to see if any athletes will be selected for competition at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships.
Men's Outdoor Track Competes at ECAC's
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Mohamed Abuouf and sophomore Sebastian Luna both placed in the Top-10 for Stevens Institute of Technology at the 2010 ECAC Championships. Abuouf placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles while Luna took ninth in the javelin. The 4x100-meter relay team also set a new school-record on Saturday.
Men's Outdoor Track Runs in NYC Qualifying Challenge
RANDALLS ISLAND, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s outdoor track and field team enjoyed record-breaking day at historic Icahn Stadium in New York City on Saturday. The Ducks set three new school-records and Mohamed Abuouf provisionally qualified for the NCAA’s with his performance in the 110-meter hurdles.
