Johnson's Double-Overtime Game-Winner Propels No. 4 Men's Soccer to 1-0 Victory Over RIT on Senior Day
HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 7, 2007) – Sophomore forward Terrance Johnson tallied the game-winning goal for the second time in as many days just 35 seconds into the second extra period on Sunday afternoon at the De Baun Athletic Complex as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s soccer team slid by the Rochester Institute of Technology by a 1-0 decision. The contest also marked the fifth time this season that the Ducks have played a game that has gone into overtime.
At halftime, Stevens (11-0-2, 4-0 Empire 8) paid tribute to its five graduating seniors who played in their next to last regular season home match this afternoon. They were Chris Greenfield, Vesh Tivzenda, Sean Bliss, Ryan Wilkison and Mike Kaiser.
In double overtime, Johnson kicked a ball from eight yards out into the left corner of the net to win the game for the Ducks. Sophomore defender Josh Williams was credited with the assist – his first of the year.
Stevens’ freshman goalkeeper Zach Carr made four saves on the day while RIT (7-5-1, 2-2 Empire 8) junior goaltender Alan Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) turned aside a game-high 11 shots. The Ducks owned a 24-10 lead in total shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Tim O’Donohue and his squad return to action this Wednesday when they travel to Kings Point, N.Y. to take on the Mariners of the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
