Swimming Closes Out 2009 Season with Impressive Performances at NCAAs
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology swimming program closed out an incredible 2009 season this past weekend on the Division III NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. The women’s team sent seven swimmers and the men’s team sent sophomore Evan Wilson. All eight swimmers left as All-Americans or honorable mention All-Americans, and the women finished the four-day event 11th in the nation.
Wilson Takes Seventh in 400-yard IM; Garners All-America Recognition
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Sophomore Evan Wilson placed seventh in the 400-yard individual medley on Thursday night at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Wilson, who took 14th in the same event at last year’s NCAA’s, becomes the first All-American in the history of the program. In addition, Wilson broke his own school record in the event.
Wilson Takes 20th in 500-free at First Day of 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Sophomore Evan Wilson finished 20th in the 500-yard freestyle on Wednesday at the University of Minnesota in the first day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Wilson, the 2009 Empire 8 Championships Swimmer of the Meet will swim two more events at these championships and will look for at least a repeat of last year’s All-American showing in the 400-yard individual medley. In addition to the 400-IM, he will compete in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Wilson to Swim Three Events at Upcoming 2009 NCAA DIII Swimming and Diving Championships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Conference released the psyche sheet for the upcoming 2009 Division III Swimming and Diving Championships and sophomore Evan Wilson will be competing in three different events. Wilson was recently named the Swimmer of the Meet after his performance at the UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championships as he won three conference titles and two New York State Championships. Last year, Wilson competed at the NCAA Championships and placed 14th in the 400-yard individual medley, making him the first All-American in the history of Stevens men’s swimming.
Wilson Named Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet Following Performance at Conference Championships
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Evan Wilson was unanimously named the Empire 8 Swimmer of the Meet, it was announced Sunday morning by the conference office. Wilson had a huge weekend for the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team as he won three Empire 8 titles, two state championships and automatically qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota beginning on March 19 with his performance in the 1650-yard freestyle. Stevens finished third in the conference behind Alfred University and Ithaca College.
