Men's Tennis Loses Second Straight Contest at MIT, 6-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (March 1, 2008) – Freshmen Zhi Wei Ko and Jay Lee won their singles matches and teamed up to come out victorious at second doubles, but it wasn’t enough as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team dropped its second consecutive match at Massachusetts Institute of Technology by a 6-3 count on Saturday in Cambridge, Mass. With the loss, the Ducks fell to 0-2, while the Engineers went to 3-1.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Ricky Bawa and sophomore Piotr Rusinkewicz lost to senior Eric Beren (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Ken Van Tilburg (Kapellen, Belgium), 8-4. Ko and Lee won an 8-5 decision over freshman Kevin Pang (Torrance, Calif.) and junior Peden Nichols (Great Falls, Va.) at No. 2 doubles. In third doubles, senior Jonathan Farm (Honolulu, Hawaii) and junior David Iba (Lexington, Mass.) defeated junior Kobe Attias and freshman Jason Ringstad, 8-5.

At first singles, Ko downed Beren in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3). Bawa fell to Van Tilburg by the score of 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Rusinkewicz went down in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) to Pang in the third flight. Nichols recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Ringstad at No. 4 singles. Attias lost by identical 6-4 scores in two sets at fifth singles to Farm. Lee picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over freshman Robert Habib (Kousba, Lebanon) in the sixth flight.

Stevens returns to the court tomorrow when it travels to Babson Park, Mass. for a 10 a.m. match at Babson College.
