Men's Tennis Blanks RIT to Move to 2-0 in Empire 8 3/30/2008 Contact: Brian Granata Files associated with this release: ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 30, 2008) – One day after defeating Nazareth College by the score of 8-1, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team made it a very successful weekend trip to Rochester, N.Y. as the Ducks posted a 9-0 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday morning. Stevens has now won three straight and four of its last five matches to move to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8. The Tigers are 1-2 this season and 0-2 in conference play. At first doubles, senior Ricky Bawa and sophomore Piotr Rusinkiewicz recorded an 8-4 win over junior Jose Guzman (Guatemala) and sophomore Gean Yip (Palo Alto, Calif.). Freshmen Zhi Wei Ko and Jay Lee ran their record to 7-0 at second doubles as they topped senior Joe Schember (Erie, Pa.) and junior Han Chong (Penang, Malaysia) by the score of 8-4. In the third-doubles match, freshmen Jason Ringstad and Carlo Pardo were 8-3 winners against junior Chris Muench (Fairport, N.Y.) and sophomore John Traver (Clifton Park, N.Y.). Ko picked up his eighth win this season as he beat Guzman 6-3, 6-2 at first singles. Bawa extended his winning streak to six straight matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Yip at No. 2 singles. Rusinkiewicz won his third match in a row as he defeated Traver 6-4, 6-2 at third singles. At No. 4 singles, Ringstad dropped a total of two games in his 6-2, 6-0 victory against Chong. The win was Ringstad’s seventh this year. Lee picked up his third-straight win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Muench at fifth singles. Junior Kobe Attias collected his fifth win of the year with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Schember at No. 6 singles. At 2-0 in the Empire 8, Stevens is in a three-way tie for first place with Alfred University and Ithaca College. The Ducks will be back in action on Saturday when they host Utica College at noon. The following day, Stevens will play Hartwick College at noon as well. |
