Box Score vs. Nazareth - March 29, 2008

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 29, 2008) – Senior Ricky Bawa won his fifth-straight match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over senior Terrance Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y.) at second singles as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s tennis team posted an 8-1 win over host Nazareth College on Saturday in Rochester, N.Y. Playing in their first-ever Empire 8 match, the Ducks are now 5-5 overall and 1-0 in league action. The Golden Flyers fell to 2-5 (0-1 Empire 8) with the loss.

At No. 1 doubles, Bawa and sophomore Piotr Rusinkiewicz suffered an 8-5 loss to Nichols and senior Jon Weaver (Victor, N.Y.). That proved to be the only match Stevens would lose all day. Freshmen Zhi Wei Ko and Jay Lee improved to 6-0 on the year as a doubles team with an 8-3 win over sophomore Stephen Trobert (Jamesville, N.Y.) and freshman Adam Landry (Macedon, N.Y.) in the second flight. In the third-doubles position, freshmen Jason Ringstad and Carlo Pardo rolled to an 8-0 victory against senior Jerry Stocker (Cassville, N.Y.) and sophomore Ben Caiella (Cicero, N.Y.).

Ko had little trouble with Weaver at first singles as he posted a 6-1, 6-1 win. After Bawa picked up his team-leading eighth victory of the season at No. 2 singles, Rusinkiewicz defeated Landry in straight-sets (6-4, 6-0) at third singles. Ringstad earned his sixth win this year as he beat Trobert by the score of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Lee did not lose a game in his 6-0, 6-0 victory over sophomore Alexander Bodensieck (Glenville, N.Y.) in the fifth-singles position. Junior Kobe Attias continued the Ducks’ dominance with a 6-0, 6-4 win against Stocker at sixth singles.

Stevens will be right back in action on Sunday when it takes on Rochester Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. The Tigers are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8 this season.
