Men's Tennis Downs Haverford In Spring Dual-Match Opener

HAVERFORD, Pa. (March 3, 2010) – The Stevens Institute of Technology, ranked 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) most recent Northeast Region poll, capped its first dual-match win of the spring season, downing the ITA’s Atlantic South No. 9 Haverford College, 6-3, at the Gary Lutnick Tennis and Track Center in the Alumni Field House at Haverford, Pa. The Ducks, who fell to ITA Northeast Region No. 11 Vassar during the fall, even their dual-match tally to 1-1 on the year.

Freshman Shota Tasaki fell to Fords’ freshman Kevin Caulfield (Honolulu, Hawaii), 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in top-flight singles, while Stevens’ junior co-captain Arik Zeevy scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory over junior Hailiu Yang (Potomac, Md.), 6-0, 6-2, in second-flight singles.

Freshman Chris Rosensteel defeated Haverford’s Will Garrett (New Market, Md.), 6-1, 6-2, in third-flight singles, while Ducks’ junior Jason Ringstad, downed sophomore Natty Sergay (Bethesda, Md.), 6-3, 6-2, in fourth-flight singles action. Stevens’ junior Jay Lee and senior Piotr Rusinkiewicz rounded out singles action by scoring wins over their Fords counterparts in fifth and sixth-flight singles, respectively.

Caulfield and Sergay defeated Zeevy and Rosensteel, 8-3, in No. 1 doubles action, while Rusinkiewicz and Tasaki outlasted Garrett and Yang, 8-6, in No. 2 doubles. Haverford freshmen Matthew Cebul (Wooster, Ohio) and Danny Himelstein (Media, Pa.) defeated Ringstad and sophomore Gregory Klose, 8-4, in No. 3 doubles.

The Ducks are back in action on March 15 against Babson College and Springfield College in Orlando, Fla.
