Cross Country and Track and Field Programs Honored as National All-Academic Teams by USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, La. – All six Stevens Institute of Technology track and field and cross country programs were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Academic teams for the 2009-10 school year. The USTFCCCA announced both its team and individual awards this week, with Stevens fifth-year graduate student Salme Cook and freshman Maggie Kowalska named 2010 Division III Track & Field All-Academic Honorees. In addition to their success in the classroom, Cook and Kowalska were also the first two Stevens student-athletes in history to compete at the NCAA Championships this past season.
David DeWan Named Conference's Rookie of the Year
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman David DeWan of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s cross country team was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year for 2009, the league announced today after the coaches’ ballot. It was DeWan’s third major award of the season, as he was previously named to the All-Empire 8 second team and was the Rookie of the Meet at the Conference Championships in November. DeWan paced the Ducks in every race he ran during the 2009 season, including a personal best time of 26:33 in the 8k Paul Short Invitational on October 2.
DeWan Paces Stevens at NCAA Regionals
GENESEO, N.Y. – First year runner David DeWan of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s cross country team ran a team best 26:55 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Saturday at Letchworth State Park, N.Y. His time placed him 74th out of 264 competitors in the field. Brad Antes and Andrew Ballinger also finished strong in the race, finishing the 8k in 27:45 and 28:26, respectively. All runners finished under the 30-minute mark for the Ducks, and the team placed 21st out of 42 schools in the race.
DeWan Named Empire 8 Rookie of the Meet; Second Team All-Conference
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 announced this weekend that freshman David DeWan of the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s cross country team was named the Rookie of the Meet at the Empire 8 Championships for his performance in the 8k race on Saturday. DeWan was also a member of the All-Conference squad, placing on the All-Empire 8 Second Team with his 12th place finish.
Ducks Take 5th at Empire 8 Cross Country Meet
SARATOGA, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s cross country team finished the 2009 Empire 8 Championships in 5th place Saturday, with freshman David DeWan again leading the way for the Ducks with his time of 27:18 in the 8k race. DeWan finished in 12th place individually, while sophomore Andrew Ballinger and junior Brad Antes came in at number 24 and 25, respectively.
