Back-and-Forth Game with Elmira Tight Until the Buzzer
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team dropped a 51-48 game to league rival Elmira College on Friday evening. The game featured an astonishing 19 lead changes and seven ties as the two sides scrapped and battled for the entire night. Stevens was led by senior Victoria Webber (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.), who scored 11 points apiece.
Stevens to Host National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Feb. 3
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology athletic department will help celebrate the 26th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), by serving as a proud host of “Title IX at 40: In It for the Long Run” on Friday, February 3. Held to promote the involvement of girls and women in sports and fitness activities, Stevens, which has hosted a NGWSD event in each of the past seven years, encourages all females and males from grades K-12 to attend free of charge.
Women's Basketball Defeats Utica 56-49
UTICA, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team topped Utica College 56-49 in an Empire 8 clash on Saturday at the Clark Athletic Center. Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.), Dawn Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) were all in double figures for the Ducks, who snapped a three-game conference skid and remain in playoff position with just two conference weekends to go.
First-Place Ithaca Downs Women's Basketball
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Though the Stevens Institute of Technology senior class had a productive day, the women’s basketball team dropped a 54-38 game to Empire 8-leading Ithaca College on Friday evening. With the result, the Bombers remain undefeated in the conference (16-3, 8-0), while the Ducks drop to (7-11, 4-4).
Barrett Drops 23 on Hartwick in Empire 8 Clash
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) led all scorers with 23 points, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team lost a Tuesday night game with Empire 8 rival Hartwick College by a final score of 65-51. Hartwick moves to 14-3 on the year and 6-1 in the conference. The Ducks fall to 7-10 and 4-3, but remain in third place n the standings.
