ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 4, 2008) – The Empire 8 handed out its year-end accolades for women’s basketball on Monday afternoon, and Stevens Institute of Technology junior guard Dani Dudek was chosen as the player of the year as voted upon by the conference. Meanwhile, Jon Hochberg was named the coach of the year by the Empire 8.

In 27 games this season, Dudek is averaging 12.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She is also shooting 41.1 percent (111-for-270) from the field and 78.0 percent (99-for-127) from the foul line. Furthermore, Dudek is slotted No. 1 in the nation in assists per game and No. 7 in assist-turnover ratio (2.4). Earlier this year, she became the all-time leader at Stevens in career assists.

Senior forward Dora Enright is the other first-team selection for the Ducks. She has registered 15.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game during the 2007-08 campaign. Enright has also notched 88 of her 118 free-throw attempts. On January 30, she put herself atop the all-time list in career rebounding against John Jay College. A few days earlier, Enright surpassed the 1,500-point plateau in a 79-53 win over Elmira College.

In his three seasons at the helm, Hochberg has guided Stevens to an overall record of 62-22, which translates into a .738 winning percentage. On January 17, he set the school mark for career victories as the Ducks downed Utica College, 70-53.

Lastly, senior guard Jean Matusiak was selected as the Sportswoman of the Year representative from Stevens. The honor emphasizes that “Competing with Honor and Integrity” is an essential component of the student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission.

Stevens returns to the court tomorrow as it hosts Lehman College in the quarterfinals of the 2008 ECAC Division III Metro Championship. Action is scheduled to get underway from the Canavan Arena at 6 p.m.
