Women's Lacrosse Finishes 2009 Ranked 15th in IWLCA Coaches Poll; Callahan Selected for North/South All-Star Game
CHESEPEAK BAY, Va. - After finishing the 2009 season with a 16-2 record and its second Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Metro/South crown in as many years, the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team finished the season ranked 16th in the final Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top-20. In addition, senior defender Cassidy Callahan was selected to participate in the IWLCA/Under Armour Division III North-South Senior All-Star Game on Saturday, June 13 in Downingtown, Pa.
Cox and Pigott Named ECAC Metro/South All-Stars
HOBOKEN, N.J. - Late last week, the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2009 ECAC Division III Women’s Lacrosse Metro/South All-Stars, and Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore Kate Cox and junior Alyssa Pigott both made the squad. Pigott and Cox were both second-team Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association /U.S. Lacrosse All-Americans in addition to being first-team all-conference selections.
Leah Wasserman and The Shana Foundation Recognized for Public Awareness Campaign by New Jersey State Legislature
MONMOUTH BEACH, N.J. - Leah Wasserman, Vice President of The Shana Foundation, a charitable organization which promotes public awareness about the dangers, warning signs, symptoms, and treatment protocol of bacterial meningitis, was recognized for her educational advocacy on behalf of both the public and the health care community by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey at a State House ceremony on May 21, 2009. Wasserman is a sophomore on the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team and just finished an exceptional season in which she tallied 56 goals and was named second-team All-Boardwalk Region by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Pigott and Cox Get Second-Team Nods, Smith Third as IWLCA and US Lacrosse Announce DIII All-Americans
CHESEPEAK BAY, Va. – Late Wednesday, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and US Lacrosse announced its annual NCAA Division III All-Americans, and three players from the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team were honored. Junior attack Alyssa Pigott and sophomore defender Kate Cox each garnered second-team honors as sophomore midfield Christine Smith was named to the third-team. The three selections are the third, fourth, and fifth in the nine-year history of women’s lacrosse at Stevens.
Five from Women's Lacrosse Named All-Boardwalk Region
CHESAPEAK BEACH, Md. – On Thursday afternoon, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its All-Regional teams for 2009. Five different players from the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team earned All-Boardwalk Region honors, with three being named to the first-team. Sophomore defender Kate Cox, junior attack Alyssa Pigott, and sophomore midfielder Christine Smith were the first-teamers as senior defender Cassidy Callahan and sophomore attack Leah Wasserman both got nods on the second-team.
