ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Empire 8 released its weekly track and field award-winners on Monday, and Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore Melissa Franzese picked up athlete of the week recognition from the conference. With the accolade, Franzese became the fourth female runner from the Ducks to earn weekly honors from the   Empire 8 during the outdoor season.

RANDALL’S ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior Salme Cook set a school and personal-best mark in the 200-meter dash on Saturday afternoon with a time of 27:47 as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track and field team took part in the New Balance NYC Challenge at Icahn Stadium in Randall’s Island, N.Y. She also set a school record and missed the ECAC qualifying time in the 400-meter dash by .09 seconds with her mark   of 1:01.05.

RANDALL’S ISLAND, N.Y. – On Friday afternoon, sophomore Melissa Franzese set an ECAC qualifying time in the 10,000-meter run with a clocking of 40:10 as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track and field team took part during the New Balance NYC Challenge at Icahn Stadium in Randall’s Island, N.Y. In the event, Franzese came in first place and will go to next week’s ECAC Championships in Springfield, Mass.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Sara Amitrani placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run on Friday evening with a clocking of 19:04.23 as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track and field team ran at the Princeton Elite Meet at the Weaver Track and Field Stadium in Princeton, N.J. The meet proved to be no easy run as the weather conditions were cold and windy on the Ivy League campus.

EWING, N.J. – Freshman Laura Barito registered a new mark in the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon with a clocking of 2:29.05 as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track & field team took part in the 2008 Lions’ Invitational in Ewing, N.J. The previous record-holder was Karen O’Shea, who ran the event in a time of 2:29.29 at the Kings Point Invitational on April 10, 2004.
