Cross Country and Track and Field Programs Honored as National All-Academic Teams by USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS, La. – All six Stevens Institute of Technology track and field and cross country programs were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as All-Academic teams for the 2009-10 school year. The USTFCCCA announced both its team and individual awards this week, with Stevens fifth-year graduate student Salme Cook and freshman Maggie Kowalska named 2010 Division III Track & Field All-Academic Honorees. In addition to their success in the classroom, Cook and Kowalska were also the first two Stevens student-athletes in history to compete at the NCAA Championships this past season.
Kowalska Named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Javelin thrower Maggie Kowalska of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's outdoor track and field team was named the Empire 8's Rookie of the Year on Tuesday morning. Kowalska was the first Stevens athlete to qualify for nationals in school history, and she finished first or second in every meet in which she competed during the regular season. Kowalska also won the conference title at the 2010 Empire 8 Championships.

BEREA, Ohio – Senior Salme Cook of the Stevens Institute of Technology women's outdoor track and field team finished with the 14th-best time in the country in the 800-meter run and freshman Maggie Kowalska placed 17th nationally in the javelin at the NCAA Division III Championships on May 27 and 28 at Baldwin-Wallace College. They were the first Stevens athletes- men or women – to ever be selected for the NCAA Championships.
Cook, Kowalska Become First-Ever Track & Field Athletes Selected for NCAA's
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Sunday evening, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced the field for the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and two members of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s team were selected. Senior Salme Cook and freshman Maggie Kowalska both made the field and will be become the first-ever track and field athletes in the history of both programs to compete at the NCAA’s.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field Completes Regular Season at TCNJ
EWING, N.J. – Senior Salme Cook broke her own school-record in the 800-meter run as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track and field team competed at The College of New Jersey Last Chance Invitational on Thursday afternoon in Ewing, N.J. to wrap up its regular season schedule. Junior Laura Barito, sophomore Grace Python, and freshman Maggie Kowalska turned in strong performances as well. The Ducks will now eagerly await Sunday when the field for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships is announced.
