No. 14 Cortland Thwarts Wrestling's Upset Bid in Final Bouts
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team gave the 14th-ranked SUNY Cortland Red Dragons all they could handle, but it was not enough as the Ducks dropped a 19-16 heartbreaker on Saturday at Walker Gymnasium in Hoboken, N.J. Stevens won four-straight bouts to overcome an early 13-4 deficit and took 16-13 lead, but the Red Dragons earned wins in the final two bouts to secure the win. The loss drops the Ducks to 4-9 on the season.
Wrestling Goes 1-2 in Conference Quad; Bridge, Bishop Go 3-0 for Ducks
MUHLENBERG, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team went 1-2 in a Centennial Conference quad hosted by Muhlenberg College on Saturday in Muhlenberg, Pa. The Ducks opened with a 46-6 win over the host, but fell 21-20 to Ursinus College, and 24-17 to No. 13 United States Merchant Marine Academy. Stevens was led by three wins from freshman 141-pounder Ryan Bridge and junior 174-pounder Bobby Bishop.
Wrestling Goes 1-1 in Centennial Conference Tri-Match
WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team went 1-1 in its Centennial Conference opening tri-match on Sunday at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. Stevens opened the day with a win over Washington & Lee University, 39-12, but dropped the nightcap to host McDaniel, 22-13. Freshman Ryan Bridge, sophomore Joe Favia, and freshman Will Sharkey each went 2-0 for the Ducks as they move to 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Wrestling Downs Hunter, 27-20; Bridge, Favia, Roarty all Notch Wins by Fall
HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team earned its second win of the season, defeating Hunter College by a final of 27-20 on Wednesday night at Walker Gymnasium in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks won six of the 10 matches on the night and recorded wins by fall from freshman 149-pounder Ryan Bridge, sophomore 165-pounder Joe Favia, and senior heavyweight James Roarty. A total of 256 people came to watch the match, setting a new Walker Gym attendance record.
Wrestling Drops Heartbreaker to No. 5 Delaware Valley College, 23-21
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A short-handed Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling squad gave fifth-ranked Delaware Valley College all it could handle on Saturday afternoon in Doylestown, Pa. The Ducks held the lead going into the final bout but fell just short in losing 23-21 to the team that had beaten previous No. 1 University of Wisconsin – La Crosse a week ago. The Ducks (1-5 overall) won five of the 10 bouts but Del Val won the final match of the day at 285 lbs. to secure the victory.
