CARLISLE, Pa. (August 31, 2007) – Junior forward Meghan Tennyson collected four points from a goal and two assists as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team opened the 2007 season with a 4-0 victory over Dickinson College on Friday in Carlisle, Pa. Sophomore goalkeeper Sherri Rosenberg registered her second career shutout in her second start in a Ducks’ uniform.
Tennyson opened the scoring just under 27 minutes into the game as she flipped a shot under the sliding attempt of freshman goalkeeper Hannah Farda (East Stroudsburg, Pa.). Junior midfielder Alison Amos set up Tennyson on the play as she sent a ball over the Devils’ defenders from around the center stripe.
Stevens extended its lead to 2-0 in the 77th minute as Tennyson ripped a shot from the left side that Farda was able to get a hand on. Sophomore midfielder/forward Leslie Kallberg touched the loose ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Less than three minutes later, Tennyson and freshman back Nicole Brand worked a nifty passing combination in front of the net that culminated with a goal from freshman forward/midfielder Kara Pepe.
Senior forward Nicole Migliore capped the scoring in the 86th minute as she received a through ball at the top of the box from freshman midfielder Mary Chew. On the play, Migliore placed a left-footed shot off the inside of the right post from 18 yards out.
Rosenberg finished the game with five saves while playing all 90 minutes. Farda made eight stops for Dickinson, which reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2005.
Stevens out-shot the Devils 18-11 overall. The Ducks held a 15-2 edge in shots in the second half. Dickinson had seven corner kicks to just five by Stevens.
The Ducks will be back in action on Saturday when they take on third-ranked Messiah College at 6 p.m. in Grantham, Pa. The Falcons, who won the 2005 Division III national championship, reached the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last season.
