Box Score vs. Messiah - September 1, 2007

GRANTHAM, Pa. (September 1, 2007) – Junior forward Rachel Horning (Morgantown, Pa.) scored the only goal of the game with 15 minutes elapsed in the second half as third-ranked Messiah College earned a 1-0 victory over the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s soccer team on Saturday in Grantham, Pa. The loss was the first of the season for the Ducks as they fell to 1-1 overall. The Falcons are now 2-0 on the year.

Following a scoreless first half, Messiah took the lead with approximately 30 minutes to go in the game. After a save by Stevens sophomore goalkeeper Sherri Rosenberg, the Falcons gained control of a wide clearance attempt by the Ducks. On the decisive play, the ball was sent from the left side of the field to the back post where Horning ripped a shot back against the grain and into the netting.

No further information was provided on the game. In 2006, Messiah reached the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Falcons captured the 2005 national championship.

The Ducks will be back in action next weekend when they host the Fourth Annual Stevens Engineering Cup. In the opening round, Stevens will take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday at noon. The second game features New York University and North Park University at 2:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games are set for Sunday, September 9 at noon and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
