Swimming Programs and Four Individuals Honored as CSCAA Scholar All-Americans
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men’s and women’s swimming programs were recognized by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America as 2010 Scholar All-American Teams, the organization announced recently. In addition, eight individuals from the two Duck programs were also named Scholar All-Americans by the Association.
Barito Named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Third-Team Academic All-American
TOWSON, Md. – Junior Laura Barito of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team was named a third-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, it was announced Thursday morning. Barito was one of 45 student-athletes across the entire country to earn the honor out of the at-large pool. The Arkadelphia, Ark. native led Stevens to a 12th-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships this past season and currently holds a cumulative grade-point average of 3.85 as a Mechanical Engineering major.
Miller Named 2010 Empire 8 Senior Scholar-Athlete Award Winner
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Stephanie Miller of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team was the female winner of the 2010 Empire 8 Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, it was announced Wednesday afternoon by the conference office. Luke Lennox of the St. John Fisher College men’s soccer team was the male recipient while Amy Scheffer of the Ithaca College swimming and diving team shared the award with Miller.
Barito, Miller Earn CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors
TOWSON, Md. – Junior Laura Barito and senior Stephanie Miller of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, it was announced Thursday morning. Barito was named first-team Academic All-District and will have the chance to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American when the national teams are released in early June. Miller was a second-team Academic All-District honoree.
Douglas Named Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Year
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman Marissa Douglas of the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s swimming team was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year on Wednesday evening. Douglas, an NCAA qualifier, helped the Ducks to a 12th-place finish nationally, and a second-place finish at both the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) and Empire 8 Championships. The Cumberland, R.I. native currently holds three individual school-records and was a member of one record-breaking relay team.
