Bacalla Ends Career in Grand Fashion with Record-Tying Victory as Women's Tennis Defeats New Paltz
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior Dana Bacalla closed out her storied collegiate career with a thrilling come-from-behind victory at first singles to record the clinching point as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team wrapped up the 2007-08 season with a 5-4 win over SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday in New Paltz, N.Y. Bacalla defeated junior Dana Lim by the score of 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 to break a 4-4 tie in the team score as the Ducks snapped their five-match losing streak. Bacalla’s match was tied 5-all in the third set before she captured the final two games.
Appleheimer Wins at Fourth Singles as Women's Tennis Falls to Hunter
HOBOKEN, N.J. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team closed out its home schedule this spring with a 7-2 loss to a Hunter College team that captured its eighth-straight City University of New York Athletic Conference title during the fall. Freshman Kendra Appleheimer was the lone member of the Ducks to win in singles as she collected a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over senior Antigone Tzakis in the fourth flight.
Women's Tennis Closes out Spring Trip to Orlando with Loss to Unbeaten Geneseo
ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Natalie Schloeder teamed up with freshman Kendra Appleheimer for an 8-3 victory over junior Caitlin Sternberg and sophomore Stephanie Loccisano at third doubles as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team wrapped up its spring trip to Orlando, Fla., with a 7-2 loss to unbeaten SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday afternoon. The Ducks (13-6) also received a win at first singles from senior Dana Bacalla, who cruised past sophomore Erika Pumple by the final score of 6-2, 6-2.
Appleheimer Wins Two Matches as Women's Tennis Falls to UW-La Crosse
ORLANDO, Fla. – Freshman Kendra Appleheimer went 2-0 on the day as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Tuesday morning in Orlando, Fla. The Ducks are now 13-5 on the year. The Eagles improved to 7-5 with the win. The last time these two teams met was just over two years ago when UW-La Crosse claimed an 8-1 victory on March 16, 2006. The match was much closer this time around.
Bacalla Wins 19th Singles Match as Women's Tennis Opens Spring with Loss to Carthage
ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Dana Bacalla improved to 19-1 this season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over sophomore Gina Klein at first singles as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team opened its spring campaign with an 8-1 loss to Carthage College on Sunday in Orlando, Fla. The Ducks are now 13-4 overall. Meanwhile, the Lady Reds improved to 7-6 on the year.
