Gomez Named ITA Northeast Assistant Coach of the Year
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently announced its Division III Award Winners as Assistant Coach Francisco Gomez of the Stevens Institute of Technology tennis programs was selected as the Northeast ITA Assistant Men’s Coach of the Year. In his two years at Stevens, Gomez has helped to guide both the men’s and women’s tennis programs to a combined record of 56-25. While at Stevens, Gomez has taken graduate classes and is anticipating his commencement on May 21, where he will receive a Master’s of Science degree in Management with a concentration in Project Management.
Stevens Tennis Program Gives Back to Hoboken
HOBOKEN, N.J. – On Saturday, April 25, the Stevens Institute of Technology tennis program hosted its complimentary junior tennis clinic for the Hoboken community. Over 20 enthusiastic youngsters took the courts with Stevens’ men’s and women’s tennis players to learn the basics and fundamentals of tennis. This is the second year that the tennis program has offered the educational seminar.
Women's Tennis Falls in Season Finale, 9-0 to TCNJ
EWING, N.J. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team was shutdown, 9-0 by the talented College of New Jersey on Wednesday evening in Ewing, N.J. The Ducks, who have been dominant all year in doubles play, fell by the scores of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-0. Stevens then lost each of its singles matches in straight sets. The Ducks conclude the 2008-09 season with an overall mark of 12-6.
Women's Tennis Takes Down New Paltz in Spring Matchup
HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore Allyson Kingman helped to lift the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team to a 6-3 win against SUNY New Paltz Wednesday afternoon in Hoboken, N.J. Kingman teamed with senior Whitney Bender at first doubles to record a 9-7 victory as Kingman notched a straight-set win (6-3, 6-1) at second singles. The Ducks have one more match remaining on their Spring schedule against The College of New Jersey.
Women's Tennis Drops UPR-Humacao 6-3 on Final Day of Spring Trip
PONCE, Puerto Rico – Sophomore Kendra Appleheimer helped to lift the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team to a 6-3 victory over the University of Puerto Rico-Humacao Thursday morning in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Teamed with freshman Nicole Portner, the pair posted the only win during doubles play as the tandem blanked Sandra Gonzalez and Alyx Santiago 8-0 at second doubles. At No. 5 singles, Appleheimer rolled over Kenia Algarin, 6-0, 6-2.
