Linda Vollkommer-Lynch

Linda Vollkommer-Lynch is in her 48th season as the head coach of the Stevens women’s fencing program. She is the lone head coach of the women’s fencing team in the history of the program and has compiled a career record of 615-310 heading into the 2020-21 season. Vollkommer-Lynch is also the longest-standing head coach in Stevens history.

In her career at Stevens, Vollkommer-Lynch has led the Ducks to finish as the top Division III school National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships seven times, five Eastern Women’s Fencing Conference team titles (EWFC) and two trips to the NCAA DIII Championships. Additionally, she was named NJCAD Coach of the Decade for the 1990s.

Linda Stevens Head Coach

  • In total, Vollkommer-Lynch has produced 23 EWFC Fencers of the Year since inception of the conference in 1996
  • In the past 10 years, she has coached a total of nine teams to NIWFA Championships across all three weapons 
  • Under Vollkommer-Lynch, six athletes have been named to the Stevens Athletics Hall of Fame 
  • She has been named conference Coach of the Year nine times in her career while also being named the NJCAD Coach of the Decade in the 1990s 
  • In 2019-20, Stevens set a new program record for victories for the third straight year with 34. The Ducks also set a program record for consecutive wins with 21 straight bout victories.
  • She also coached ToyKen Yee, who advanced to the NCAA National Championships in 1982 and finished in 14th place individually

  • As a fencer, Vollkommer-Lynch won the 1983 New Jersey State Championship 
  • She also participated in the national Sports Festival in 1981 and 1982 and was the finalist in the first Garden State Games in 1983. 
  • Additionally, she competed in the US Women’s Fencing Olympic trails in 1984 
  • She earned a B.A. degree in Physical Education from New Jersey City University in 1970 
  • Vollkommer-Lynch was inducted of the Hudson County Hall of Fame in 2000 and the New Jersey State Hall of Fame in 1985
