Effective April 13, 2023, Russell Rogers has been named Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation.

Rogers was elected to the NCAA Division III Management Council in January 2025 and has also served on the NCAA Division III Baseball, Men's Basketball, Men's Volleyball , and the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committees. Additionally, he is the Chair of the Middle Atlantic Conference Athletic Director Board.

Prior to his new title, the 2022-23 school year marked Rogers’ 23rd as the Director of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation at Stevens since entering into the role in July of 2000. In total, Rogers has been on staff at Stevens since 1995 when he was the Director of Campus Recreation.

In that time, Rogers has spearheaded a period of rapid growth and development, including the transition from the Empire 8 Conference into the Middle Atlantic Conference as well as the move from the Skyline Conference into the Empire 8. He also oversaw the Ducks’ first NCAA team National Championship by men’s volleyball in the 2015 season.

In his time at Stevens, the Ducks have finished inside the top-50 in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Director’s Cup standings 15 times. Rogers led Stevens to its highest-ever finish in the Director’s Cup in 2021-22 with a 10th-place finishes in 2021-22 and improved the institution’s standings in each of his first five years. Most recently, Stevens finished 18th in the Learfield Director's Cup standings for the 2023-24 academic year.

Rogers was recognized for his meritorious years of service to the metropolitan area basketball community in April 2022 when was honored with the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA).

Additionally, Stevens was the ECAC Jostens Institution of the Year for excellence in academics and athletics for the 2007-08 and 2012-13 school years. Stevens was selected ahead of 320 other NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions, and became one of only three schools to earn the distinction twice, joining Williams College and Princeton University.

  • Rogers has increased the varsity sport offering at Stevens from 17 to 25 in his 24 years as athletic director, including the addition or re-introduction of:

  • One of the top academic institutions in the country, Rogers has also helped Stevens varsity athletes maintain well above a 3.6 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).
  • In 2019-20, Rogers was named a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Met Basketball Writers Association.
  • Co-founder and leader in development of United Volleyball Conference—one of first conferences formed for participation in NCAA Division III men’s volleyball.
  • Rogers’ tenure has also seen a variety of facility improvements including the construction of the DeBaun Athletic Complex, an artificial turf field complex which serves as home to the soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and baseball teams.
  • The facility replaced the existing grass field in the fall of 2001 before a state-of-the-art Field Turf system was installed in 2000, and then re-done in 2014. The field was then again re-done in 2023.
  • In the fall of 2004, Walker Gymnasium was reopened following a multimillion-dollar renovation that saw the addition of new locker rooms, offices, a recruiting lounge, a varsity weight room, and a newly refurbished gymnasium.
  • Rogers also oversaw the construction of the Stevens’ wrestling room and the complete renovation of the Stevens tennis courts.
  • More recently, he has overseen the extensive renovation of Canavan Arena, new turf, lights, and video board at the DeBaun Athletic Complex, along with conversion of the Athletic Training Center to an all-turf facility to serve a wide variety of teams and the university community.

  • Went on to achieve his Master of Arts degree in physical education, exercise and sport science with an emphasis on athletic administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1991.
