OSWEGO, N.Y. (October 29, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team is ranked 28th in the nation according to the Brute-National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III rankings.
In addition, junior 149-pounder
Mike Polizzi, who reached the NCAA Championships as a sophomore, is currently sixth in the nation, while senior
Ryan Dormann checks in 10th at 174.
The Ducks open their 2013-14 season Saturday in Chicago, Ill., squaring off against a pair of NCAA Division I opponents in Northwestern University and University of Chicago.
The 2012-13 season saw Stevens send a pair of wrestlers to the nationals in Polizzi and two-time All-American
Joey Favia. Polizzi and Dormann – who qualified in 2009, 2011 and 2012 – are both returning to the Ducks this year as is two-time Centennial Conference finalist
CJ Caserta.
Overall, Stevens returns three of four regional place-winners from last year's team that won the Virginia Duals despite injuries to several starters. Additionally, with a number of former conference place-winners returning to the lineup this season and a big recruiting class in the fold, Stevens has a good chance to improve on last year's finish both in dual meets and at the East Region.
The Ducks finished 8-10 overall in duals, and placed sixth at the Centennial Conference Championships with 33 team points. The Ducks were seventh as a team in the East Region and finished 32nd nationally at NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
